The Lindisfarne Gospels?
The Lindisfarne Gospels are one of the oldest surviving Anglo-Saxon manuscripts, dating back to around the years 715 AD -720 AD. These illustrated biblical manuscripts are the intricate work of the monks who resided on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in Northumberland who, through detailed illustration and Latin inscription, recounted the life and teaching of Christ.
When the island of Lindisfarne came under Viking attack (around 875 AD), the Gospels were saved by the fleeing monks and transported to the mainland. These remarkable manuscripts have since survived social and political turmoil over 13 centuries and now reside in the British Library, London.

The Lindisfarne Gospels?
Here at Atticus Consultancy, we were pleased to have the opportunity to sponsor the temporary return of the Lindisfarne Gospels to the North East of England.
The exhibition at the Laing Gallery brought the magnificence of these ancient manuscripts to the attention of the local community. The exhibition was available to the community, schools and colleges allowing them to experience first-hand an important piece of local history.
Sponsorship by local businesses helped ensure that the Gospels could be displayed in the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle; bringing them closer to their place of origin and enabling over 56,000 visitors to see the illustrated manuscripts in person.
